vThings - Wi-Fi Thermometer

I will take some vacation for 2 weeks, so I will assemble and ship all orders in the first week of Februray

This tiny Temperature Sensor allows you to remotely track Temperature, Humidity(opt) and Pressure (opt). It is powered with 5V Micro USB Plug (sorry, no battery yet).
It uses the popular vESPrino Firmware which allows to integrate neatly with any Home Automation System or Online Service via HTTP or MQTT.

Size is about 15 x 2.7 x 1 cm (Length, Width, Height).
It was initially smaller, yet due to heat from the Wifi module influencing the results, i had to increase the box length

It comes with three options
  • Temperature / Pressure (BMP180) (default)
  • Temperature / Humidity (SI7021)
  • Temperature / Humidity / Pressure  (BME280)

vThings - Wi-Fi LUX Meter
This tiny LUX Sensor allows you to remotely track the level of Light. It is powered with 5V Micro USB Plug (sorry, no battery yet).
It uses the popular vESPrino Firmware which allows to integrate neatly with any Home Automation System or Online Service via HTTP or MQTT.

There are several sensors available with different sensivity
  • BH 1750 - default
  • TSL 2561 - wider dynamic range

Why Dust Monitoring?

Monitoring Dust Levels is quite important for your health. According to leading researches, there is NO safe level of Dust and each increase of the Dust Levels leads to more cases of chornic deceases. Especially in the cold seasons this can become a problem as the outside air is also quite polluted due to heating based on coal/wood etc.

Have a look also on the Dust Series blogs, that explore the topic in great detail.

Laser Dust Particle Sensor - PMS 7003

In this device i am using a Laser Dust Sensor from the company Plantower. It is quite precise and targetted to dust levels of PM2.5 paricles, which is the most common dust nowadays.

Upgrades

The available upgrades are:
  • 315/433 Mhz - A RF sender module is included to broadcast sensor readings
  • CO2, Temperature - See the CO2 & Dust Monitor v3 product

Connectivity

As part of my HA (Home Automation) Line, this device is targeted primarily to scenarios involving Home Automation and Online Monitoring. It can be configured to send the readings in various ways over Wifi:
  • Custom URL - This can point to your HA system or to some Public online Service.
  • MQTT
  • Predefined Online Services - Pre-defined integration with Thingspeak, IFTTT, Ubidots and Dweet.io
  • Predefined HA Systems - Integration with OpenHAB, Domotica and Domoticz

There is also an optional 433 / 315 Mhz connectivity, where the data is sent over some standard protocol

Overview

The "vThings - CO2 Monitor R3" is the third and most advanced (till now) incarnation of my initial "vAir - CO2 Monitor" from 2014. Lot's of customer feedback and usecases have been collected and applied to both the hardware and software parts of the device. With all the available upgrades - this becomes one of the most customizable and advanced CO2 Monitors in the market as of 2016.

Highlights

  • CO2 Sensor Upgrades
    • The default CM1106 NDIR Sensor 3-day auto-calibration period and good accuracy < ±(50ppm+5% reading) can be upgraded to:
      • CM1102 - Calibration-free, with best accuracy < ±(40 ppm+2% of reading)
      • CDM7160 - Calibration-free, < 10ma Power Consumption, with better accuracy < ±(50 ppm+3% of reading)
  • Additional Sensor Upgrades
    • Dust - PM 2.5 and PM 10
    • Temperature
    • Humidity
    • Pressure
  • Additional Connectivity Options
    • RF 315/433 MHz - also integrated in the latest firmwares of RFXCom devices
  • Highly hackable and Customizable Firmware
    • Most of the popular Online IoT services and Home Automation servers are natively supported
    • Apple HomeKit via Homebridge (planned)
    • Custom HTTP and MQTT connectivity for advanced configuration
    • Easy Configuration via Serial Port and Chrome App or via Wi-Fi (planned)
    • Automatic and Manual Over-The-Air updates of the firmware
  • Open Source and Open Hardware
    • Every part is open and can be improved and extended by the community
    • The hardware design is future proof - that means:
      • You can easily upgrade your existing device by buying upgrade parts from me or other sites
      • Should i release an improved version (e.g. Bluetooth support, Battery or other sensors) it is very easy to upgrade your existing device to this (as the CO2 and Dust sensors are in fact the most expensive parts)

CO2 Sensors Feature Comparison

After spending couple of years in the CO2 measurement field i've worked with quite a few manufacturers, so i can offer few different options with different pros/cons. The table below compares the core attributes of each sensor

Note: The devices come in two different shapes, depending on the features you chose, due to the power consumption of the CM1106, CM1102 and the Dust Sensor. If you order those along with Temperature Measurement, they are placed in a larger box, so that the temperature sensor is isolated from the CO2 / Dust Sensor.
